What it was like on the ground

Standing at the Red Cliff overlook, reading the inscription and looking out over the Yangtze, the battle finally had a geography — you can imagine the burning fleet, the wind, the turning of a war. It is a park built around a story, and if you know the story it lands; if you do not, it is a pleasant riverside walk. We paired it with an afternoon at the Xianning hot springs, which turned a history stop into a genuinely relaxing break — the springs are the real reason to make it an overnight. The honest verdict: Chibi is for the Three Kingdoms reader, and it works best as a half-day detour plus a soak, not a destination on its own.
